Len & Mary's Wedding

1952 June 14

Created by Nicola 6 years ago

They were married at St John's The Evangalist, Salford Cathedral.  The story goes it was an awful day with the skies really dark, despite it being June.  Dad being a non-catholic, he'd had to go for 'lessons' for the wedding to be allowed at the Cathedral, but given it was the family local church, it was the obvious venue.

I remember Mum saying she'd not forgiven my Dad for wearing his shirt for his stag night the night before!

Worrying they wouldn't have enough tables and chairs for the 'do' round at my gran's, there was also a story that my diminutive gran (Molly - Mum's mum), post Black Horse, was seen struggling down The Crescent, not realising they were tables rather than chairs, she had  a pair of the old wrought iron tables tucked under each arm, huffing and puffing to the house!
