Frère Jacques & Choc-ice

Created by Ceri 6 years ago

I remember Grandma teaching me Frère Jacques on the piano, i'll be honest I was slightly overwhelmed by her intense determination which far surpassed my motivation at the time (a very young child at this point). But learn it I did, she even wrote the notes on the keys for me when I continued to struggle and struggle, she would do anything to help me get there.

She was always there for all of us if we ever needed help, and she seemed to be an expert in everything.

She was a force to be reckoned with, it seemed to me there was nothing she did not know or could not master if she wanted to, I was (and am) in awe.

But at the same time so incredibly kind and caring, I don't know how she did it but I could feel that I was in the soft spot without her having to say anything.

I'm sure when I was little the fact that she always had a choc-ice ready for me in the freezer was a big indication of her love. I was always so excited to come to grandma's, set myself up in granddad's rocking chair, eat choc-ices and watch count-down (occasionally pausing to chase the cat around the house too).

She seemed to always be giving, thinking about herself.

I don't think I have once heard her complain about anything in my whole life, apart from the notable exception of calling someone out for being a mard arse usually with a passionate "give over!"which I always found so satisfying (when is wasn't directed at me of course).

I am so proud to be her granddaughter and hope to god that I have even an ounce of her fire in me.

Miss her more than I can put into words

Love you grandma
